Daffodil Planting and Nature Exploration

Sunday, November 15th, 11:00am to 2:00pm

Free and open to the public

As fall nears its end, and before the ground frosts, we’re inviting the public to join us to liven up our daffodil fields for spring!  2020 has been a difficult year for so many and we know that our grounds have been a welcome escape for families and friends to meet and explore our trails.  We would love for you to join us as we plant the bulbs now that will give us something to look forward to come springtime when the fields are in bloom again. Bulb planting will be from 11am to 1pm.

After planting a couple bulbs, head up to the Mansion for family friendly nature exploration activities with Everyone Outside.  Everyone Outside is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization based in Connecticut that provides opportunities for people of all ages to spend time outside learning about and appreciating their natural environment. Activities will include a guided nature walk at 11am,  a fun nature scavenger hunt for the young and old to explore on our trails. There will be random drawings of prizes for those who participate in the hunt.  There will also be lessons in letterboxing at 1pm. Letterboxing is a treasure hunt type game. You follow clues to find a small box often along a trail in the woods. There are over 100 letterboxes hidden in the Middletown area.

We will also have a performance with live music under the portico in front of the Mansion.

This event is free and open to the public. All attendees are asked to wear masks when they are unable to maintain a safe distance from others. While the grounds will be open, the Mansion itself will be closed.

Looking for other ways to help local public park areas? The Rockfall Foundation has a team of volunteers committed to restoring the health of Rockfall Forest, adjacent to Wadsworth Falls State Park, by removing invasive plants that are overgrowing. More volunteers are needed to help clear invasives so that native trees, and with them the native fauna, can thrive. Bring clippers and gloves if you have them; a limited supply will be available. Tick repellant suggested. Meet at 9:45 in the Big Falls parking lot, 25 Cherry Hill Rd. in Rockfall. Click here for more information.
